Unit sales and OEM revenues for wide-format LCD monitors are expected to grow worldwide through 2011, according to data from the research firm iSuppli. Sales are expected to see a 73.4 percent combined annual growth rate (CAGR) from the 9.1 billion units sold in 2006, to reach 146.9 million units by 2011.
The company says that it expects the category to account for the largest share of the LCD market by 2009 in terms of revenue and unit shipments. By 2011, it is expected that the category will see revenue grow to $20.9 billion, rising at a 55 percent CAGR from $2.3 billion in 2006.
This year alone, iSuppli expects end-user sales to nearly quadruple to 35.8 million units, from 9.1 million in 2006. Revenue is also expected to triple this year to $6.7 billion.
iSuppli said it based its growth predictions on a number of factors including growing importance of video applications among consumers, the expected continued adoption of Microsoft's Vista operating system and an expected aggressive pricing battle by makers of 19-inch, 20-inch and 22-inch widescreen makers.
