Circuit Gift Cards Accepted By hhgregg

hhgregg didn’t wait for store closings to make a grab for Circuit City’s market share.

For a limited time last month the multi-regional CE and appliance chain accepted Circuit City gift cards at all of its stores.

The five-day promotion, which was later extended by a week, was held independent of Circuit City, and hhgregg applied the cards’ value to only 20 percent of the total purchase price.

Customers also forfeited their gift cards to hhgregg upon completion of the transaction.

hhgregg overlaps with 30 of Circuit City’s 155 liquidating locations, the retailer said.

Separately, the bankruptcy court overseeing Tweeter’s liquidation sales has extended the chain’s deadline for accepting Tweeter gift cards from Nov. 15 to the end of the year or until the stores close. The court acquiesced to pressure from several state attorneys general, led by Connecticut A.G. Richard Blumenthal.
