Best Buy Drops Recycling Fees

MINNEAPOLIS –

Best Buy has eliminated
its $10 recycling fee for CE items
with display screens, making its nationwide
in-store electronics recycling program
completely free of charge.

The in-store recycling program accepts
such items as TV and computer
monitors, DVD players, audio and video
cables, cell phones, and CRTs up to 32
inches and flat panels up to 60 inches,
all at no cost.

Last year Best Buy collected 83
million pounds of electronics and 73
million pounds of appliances, and the
company aims to collect 1 billion total
pounds of electronics by the end of
2014. The company works only with
certified third-party electronics recyclers,
all of which carry R2 or eStewards
certification.
