As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog the amount of wireless spectrum is a major concern of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).
Today Veronica O’Connell, , congressional affairs, government affairs VP of CEA issued a statement in response to today’s hearing from the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology entitled ‘Equipping Carriers and Agencies in the Wireless Era.’
“We applaud the leadership of Chairman Greg Walden (R-Ore.) in holding this timely hearing. There is no doubt that our nation is quickly facing a spectrum shortage crisis. According to CEA market research, about 400 million devices that connect directly to the internet are sold each year, and hundreds of millions more use spectrum to connect through these devices.”
She continued, “Consumer use of wireless is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity. We urge Congress to examine our own government’s use of spectrum and work to ensure that our nation’s resource is being fully and effectively utilized.”
