HD Radio Cites OEM Gains
COLUMBIA, MD. — Honda and Dodge have become the latest car brands to offer HD Radio, bringing the digital radio technology to 33 vehicle brands in 170 car models, HD Radio developer iBiquity Digital announced.
A total of 80 car models offer HD Radio as standard equipment, more than 3.4 million HD Radio-equipped cars were sold in 2012, and 20 percent of all new cars sold in 2012 included HD Radio, iBiquity added.
Boss Adds Stereo Bluetooth To Mech-Less Marine Units
OXNARD, CALIF. — Boss Audio expanded its selection of mech-less marine head units with its first two models equipped with stereo Bluetooth.
They are the $196-suggested MR1350UAB and $150 MR1308UAB.
Both single-DIN models ship in April with AM/FM tuner, MP3/WMA playback from USB sticks and CDs, 4x50-watt output, remote and ability to retain radio presets in case they are disconnected from power. The MR1350UAB adds full iPod and iPhone control through USB.
Alpine Launches TuneIt App For Quick Sound-System Tuning
TORRANCE, CALIF. — Apple launched its TuneIt app for iPhones and plans an Android version later in April for use with a currently shipping car CD receiver and with two more CD receivers to come.
TuneIt lets users plug in their vehicle’s make, model and speaker locations into their smartphone, after which sound-system settings are downloaded from Cloud and sent to the connect head units to tune response to the vehicle. Settings are transferred via USB cable when the iPhone is used and by Bluetooth when an Android phone is used.
Meantime, the company shipped two Bassline subwoofers built in collaboration with Far East Movement to make them relevant to the youth market. Alpine and the music group plan a series of promotions that have not yet been announced.
