NEW YORK – Premium and super-premium appliance manufacturers introduced a bevy of new lines and finishes last week at the 12th annual Architectural Digest Home Design Show (ADHDS).
The home-furnishings event for designers, decorators and consumers, held here at Pier 94, has become an increasingly important showcase for luxury majap makers. Highlights of the four-day fair included a Jenn-Air Master Class Studio seminar series that featured panel discussions with top interior designers and a Jenn-Air Master Class Sweepstakes that offered the chance for one attendee to win a complete suite of appliances and a design consultation valued at $27,000.
“As the leading showcase for the best new ideas in home design and luxury furnishings, this event is the ideal venue for sharing our expanding product collection with both industry professionals and design-conscious consumers,” said Jenn-Air brand experience manager Juliet Johnson. “We’re excited to debut several new products this year, including an extraordinary cooking ventilation system, new cooking appliances and a built-in coffee maker.”
The new ventilation system, the 36-inch Accolade, features a high-performance, pressure-stabilizing inline blower system that removes cooking smoke at a rate of up to 1,200 cubic feet per minute (CFM). The hood also has ambient lighting, concealed controls and discreet LED lighting that indicates fan speed and provides an alert when filters require cleaning.
Elsewhere at the Jenn-Air exhibit, which was selected “Best In Show” last year within the kitchen category by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the high-end Whirlpool brand showcased its collection of wall ovens, built-in refrigerators and dishwashers and an array of finishes including its Euro-Style and Pro-Style stainless-steel options.
Also showing at the ADHDS was Italy’s Bertazzoni, which unveiled its largest North American introduction in company history at the booth of its U.S. distributor Eastern Marketing. The range maker’s new lineup includes a new deep-orange color and added features for its Professional, Master and updated Heritage series, including brass burners, increased power to 18,000 Btu, precision control gas values for extreme low simmering, soft-motion door hinges, ergonomically stylized handles and telescopic glide racks, all at more competitive price points.
The company’s built-in program has also been enhanced with new specialty ovens at more accessible price points, and Bertazzoni also debuted its first, free iPad app, currently in beta, containing interactive product information and images, designed for distributors, dealers, architects and interior designers.
“Today marks a major milestone for the Bertazzoni brand,” said Paolo Bertazzoni, president and fifth-generation owner of Bertazzoni. “This is the single-largest new product introduction for the Bertazzoni line in the North American market and I’m proud to put our family name on it. We’re continuing to embrace new product innovation with our next generation of ranges, building on our rich Italian heritage of high-quality engineering and culinary culture that’s made our brand a success for 131 years.”
The new ranges are slated to hit retail floors on April 1.
It was also a busy show for EuroChef USA, which spotlighted its Verona, Verona Pro and ILVE range, oven and cooktop collections, and added a new 36- inch professional gas cooktop to the latter. The latest ILVE introduction, available this summer, features five high-efficiency 15,500 Btu brass burners and an oblong center burner that evenly heats the included stainless-steel griddle. The burner controls feature “one-touch” automatic electronic ignition, a flame-sensor safety device, and removable easy-to-clean castiron grates and burner caps. The ranges are available in standard 24-, 30-, 36-, 40-, 48- and 60-inch widths, and full-size warming drawers and rotisseries are standard on most models.
Elsewhere, Gaggenau, a unit of Germany’s BSH Home Appliances, showed its Vario cooktop 400 series. Available in 15-inch to 36-inch widths, the stainless-steel cooktops are available as induction or gas models, can be flush- or surface-mounted, and feature such custom add-ons as in-counter steamers, electric grills and deep fryers, all with matching ventilation elements.
Separately, Gaggenau also showed its RW 414/464/404 wine rack series, available in 18-inch and 24-inch columns, or as a 24-inch undercounter storage unit.
Liebherr Refrigeration North America, a leader in environmentally responsible refrigeration, used the show to introduce its new brand ambassador, Ian Knauer, food author and star of PBS’ upcoming television series, “The Farm.” Knauer conducted a cooking demo using seasonal ingredients from Liebherr’s patented BioFresh drawers, which keep food fresh three times longer than traditional refrigerators, the manufacturer said.
