LAS VEGAS – Nikon traveled to the 2013 International CES to unveil three cameras for the new year, including two editions for the popular 1-series mirrorless compact system camera family.
The models include the 1-series models — J3 and S1 — as well as a new Coolpix S6500 point-andshoot camera.
The S1 will ship in February with an 11-27.5mm kit lens at $500 suggested retail, while the J3 will appear on shelves around the same time at $600, including a 10-30mm kit lens.
The Coolpix S6500 will ship in late January at a $220 suggested retail.
The J3 features a 14.2-megapixel CX-format CMOS sensor and an Expeed 3A image processing engine. The S1 has a 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor.
Both cameras feature ISO sensitivity ranges to 6,400, with the J3 starting at 160 and the S1 starting at 100.
Other common features include an integrated pop-up flash, a 3-inch LCD screen, a 73-point autofocus array, an 80ms release time, and continuous burst shooting speed of 15 fps continuous AF.
Both models will also shoot FullHD video and offer frame rates of up to 1,200 fps for slow-motion work.
The J3 also adds an improved user interface and a simplified panorama mode.
The new 1 Nikkor lenses include a 6.7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 ultra-wide-angle zoom and a 10-100mm f/4-5.6. The 6.7- 13mm lens (18-35mm FX/35mm equivalent) includes vibration reduction and a 100-degree angle of view.
The 10-100mm also has vibration reduction.
The new lenses will each carry suggested retails starting around $500 each, and will ship at a date to be announced late.
The Coolpix S6500, meanwhile, features a 12x optical zoom and built-in image retouching effects.
It expands on the S6300 with a 16-megapixel backsideilluminated CMOS sensor, and a 25mm-300mm focal range lens with lens-shift vibration reduction.
The camera also adds Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing file transfers to mobile devices and remote camera control from a smartphone app.
Five new image retouching effects have been added, including teeth whitening and dark-circle removal around eyes.
This TWICE webinar, hosted by senior editor Alan Wolf, will take a look at what may be the hottest CE products at retail that will be sold during the all-important fourth quarter. Top technologies, market strategies and industry trends will be discussed with industry analysts and executives.
