Samsung Presents 85'' Ultra HD LCD TV

LAS VEGAS – Samsung will use International CES 2013 to unveil its latest TV lines highlighted by an 85- inch Ultra High-Definition edge-lit LED LCD, a 55-inch OLED TV and lines of even smarter and larger FullHD LED LCD TVs.

This year’s line will stress Samsung’s advanced smart-TV functionality, improved picture quality and large screens.

The flagship of the 2013 line is the 85-inch 4K Ultra HD set (model N85S9000), with four times the pixels available in 1080p displays. It will also include a 3.2-channel, 120-watt sound system, and a new Smart Hub employing five onscreen panels to assist in content discovery.

Samsung will embed its S-Recommendation lists to suggest content, using thumbnail previews in the browsing process.

The set can be controlled with Voice Interaction technology that now understands complete sentences, queries and simple commands.

The 4K picture quality is supported with an image scaler based on Samsung’s proprietary Super Resolution engine that up-converts lower resolution images from SD, HD and FHD sources to the Ultra HD level.

The onboard system is powered by an A15 Quad- Core 1.35GHz processor with 3.6 times the speed of last year’s dual-core processor.

The set’s frame design creates a picture that appears to be floating within the frame. Other features include AllShare with DLNA technology to connect compatible Samsung smart devices for media sharing and whole-home automation; easy connecting to mobile devices and PCs; Smart View streaming between the TV and Samsung mobile device; and Precision Black Pro black-level enhancement.

Samsung will once again unveil a 55-inch OLED TV at this year’s CES. Pricing and the exact availability date were not available at press time. The KN55F9500 Real OLED TV uses self-emitting red, green and blue sub-pixels to eliminate the need for backlighting, which improves black levels and whites. The set includes the aforementioned Smart Hub SRecommendation, Voice Interaction, improved motion control, and an A15 quad-core 1.35GHz processor.

The set will also offer 3D capability, using Samsung’s special 3D glasses that allow each viewer to see content in 2D and 3D, and enjoy clear stereo sound from personal speakers built into each pair of glasses. The set will also be one of the first televisions to natively support content encoded with the HEVC codec Smart Evolution Kit Connector.

Topping off the FullHD 1080p lineup are the 8000-series 3D Smart LED Backlit LCD TVs highlighted by the 60-inch UN60F8000 (shipping in the first half at price to be announced). If offers the A15 quad-core processor and native support for HEVC encoded content. The line will also include Smart Hub, S-Recommendation, Voice Interaction, 2-megapixel FHD camera and unidirectional microphone, AllShare DLNA technology, easy connection and sharing with Samsung mobile devices, Smart View, and LED backlighting with Micro Dimming Ultimate technology that analyzes each video frame in thousands of areas to optimize the video signal for each frame in real time.

A Web Picture Quality Enhancer applies different algorithms to text and images to improve web browser performance.

The 7000 series, which also ships in the first half with the 60-inch UN60F7500, has many of the same features, including quad-core processing with HEVC support and voice-recognition control.

The highlight of Samsung’s 2013 plasma TV offerings is the 8500 series, including the 64-inch PN64F8500, due to ship in the first half a prices to be announced.

It combines next-generation technologies to produce what Samsung called “the darkest blacks and brightest picture for a plasma TV,” a Metal Craft Design and One Body Form stand, Real Black Pro Gen 3 real black filter, nanocarbon compound to block stray ambient light from diluting the image, Deep Black Algorithm II controls, 2.5x white brightness improvement, innate Frame Rate Conversion chipset and the A15 quad-core processor with support for HEVC.
