RILA Debunks DeMint's WSJ Column

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) issued a press release on an op-ed piece in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal by U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-S.C.).

The senator complains about the Marketplace Fairness Act, the legislation that would end, in RIAA’s words, “special treatment for online-only retailers who currently exploit a decade’s old loophole to avoid collecting and remitting state sales tax.”

The legislation is also strongly backed by the Consumer Electronics Association.

The RIAA contended that Senator DeMint’s column includes “a number of factual errors” and issued the document below to highlight what it calls “the inaccuracies.”

The RIAA press release makes for interesting reading. It is available here.
