Wearables, 4K Fuel 13% Growth At D&H

Harrisburg, Pa. — D&H Distributing said wearables, 4K/UHD TV, mobility products and imaging helped fuel company growth of 13.3 percent for the May through October period.

The national IT and CE distributor, based here, said the gains were more than twice the average growth rate within the distributor channel.

Wearables was D&H’s fastest-growing CE category, while orders of 4K/UHD models with screen sizes larger than 60 inches rose 23 percent for the six months.

The company said 4K/UHD is “beginning to mature” in the marketplace as retail price points reach the popular under-$1,000 bracket, and acceptance rates are nearly nine times greater than earlier innovations like 3DTV due to greater content and technology adoption.

D&H also reported high double-digit increases for tablets, notebooks, imaging products and monitors.

Other burgeoning categories include 3D printing and scanning, which is creating a considerable “market buzz” that will continue into 2015, and the Internet of Everything (IoT) platform, which is similarly gaining momentum, the distributor said.

“It’s encouraging to see how the Internet of Everything is taking shape in the market,” said D&H purchasing VP Rob Eby. “People are moving toward a vision that incorporates technology into not just their entertainment, but into more of their everyday dealings, like fitness and home security.”

Eby added that the company has spent the year keeping dealers on the cusp of such “unique market developments and fresh opportunities.”
