Huawei Unveils First Smart Watch, Other Wearables, 7-Inch Phablet

Barcelona, Spain – Huawei came to the Mobile World Congress (MWC) today to announce its first smart watch, second-generation TalkBand wearables, and what is calls the industry’s slimmest 7-inch phablet at 7.28mm.

The MediaPad X2phablet is also billed as the first 64-bit octa-core 4G LTE phablet with dual SIM slots.

Although the company said the smart watch and TalkBand B2 wristband would come to the U.S., it didn’t specify if the other products would come to the U.S. Availability dates weren’t announced.

Watch plans: The Huawei Watch, the company’s first smart watch, is powered by Android Wear. It features a 42mm-diameter circular design and a 1.4-inch touch-sensitive AMOLED 400 by 400 pixel display with 286 PPI, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, and scratch-proof sapphire crystal lens. The watch’s crown, frame and hinge are built from scratch-resistant cold-forged stainless steel for hardness. It comes with magnetic charging station.

The touchscreen displays more than 40 different watch faces, and different watch straps are available.

The watch also incorporates a range of health-tracking functions, including a built-in heart-rate monitor, six-axis motion sensor, and barometer to automatically track real-time walking, running, biking, hiking or sleeping. Users can monitor the number of calories burned, heart rate, climbing height, steps taken, and distance traveled.

When paired with Android 4.3+ smartphones, the watch receives SMS, email, calendar, app, and call notifications.

The watch features Qualcomm 1.2GHz processor, 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM and Bluetooth 4.1.It comes in gold, silver and black.

TalkBand wearables: The two Talk Band wearables include the TalkBand B2 wrist strap, which features a more business-like professional design than its predecessor and delivers fitness-tracking functionality said to be more accurate.

The B2’s rectangular display doubles as a detachable Bluetooth in-ear hands-free headset with dual-microphone, noise reduction technology, and smart detection to know when the Bluetooth earpiece is in the wristband or not, allowing it to automatically receive a call or play music.

It also features six-axis sensor to record motion, the duration of deep and light sleep, and provide consumers with tips on improving their sleep pattern.

The TalkBand B2 features metal bracket made of light-weight aviation aluminum, HD touch screen, two watchband styles (one in leather) and black, silver and gold colors.

TalkBand B2 operates up to five days, features six-hour talk time through a Bluetooth-connected smartphone, and 12 days’ standby time. TalkBand B2 pairs with smartphones running Android 4.0 and up and IOS7.0 and up.

The recommended retail price of premium version with leather strap is 199 euros, while the version with other strap is 169 euros.

The second TalkBand product is the TalkBand N1, billed as the industry’s first stereo Bluetooth headset incorporating hands-free calling, built-in health and sports-tracking functions when paired with a smartphone, and built-in MP3 player, which features 4G of music storage. Functions include step counting, distance calculation, calorie consumption tracking, and more.

It features aptX technology to deliver 20-20kHz frequency response. Its health and sports tracker functions include step counting, distance calculation, calorie consumption tracking, and more.

It’s made of soft rubber and features IP54 dustproof and waterproof rating, making it sweat-proof, the company said. The magnetic earbud design turns the TalkBand N1 into a necklace accessory.

It will be available in silver, gray and red at 119 euros.

Phablet: The second-generation MediaPad features 7-inch 1200 x 1920 HD 323 PPI IPS screen, 64-bit 2GHz octa-core Kirin 930 processor, and LTE Category 6 to deliver peak download speeds up to 300Mbps. It will come in two versions: one with 2G RAM and 16GM storage in silver, and the other with 3G RAM and 32GB storage in gold.

It features aviation-aluminum metal case, borderless screen offering a screen-to-body ratio of 80 percent for single-handed operation, and 5,000 mAh Li-Polymer battery delivering one day of heavy use. It supports video streaming for up to 12 hours, or 15 hours of internet surfing, or 60 hours of music playing via headphones.

Other features include 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front-facing camera with F/2.4 aperture and wide angle of 22mm.
