Epson Expands Moverio App Developer Program

Long Beach, Calif. — Epson America said Tuesday it has expanded its app developer program supporting the Moverio augmented-reality headgear.

The Moverio Apps Market allows developers to upload and market unique applications for the BT-200 Moverio platform on a global, Epson-branded site.

In tandem with the app developer program expansion, Epson said 360-degree camera maker Bubl, Blippar and Wear Geared have signed on with new apps supporting the BT-200 glasses.

The site for the Moverio Developer Program now provides free tools and third-party SDKs from leading augmented-reality companies, including Wikitude and Metaio, along with links to support forums, software updates and more.

Epson said the program serves as the primary resource for the many application developers creating solutions for Epson’s Moverio BT-200 smart glasses.

In addition, Epson debuts its Moverio Apps Market where developers can upload and market applications specifically tailored to the Moverio platform on a global, Epson-branded site.

Bubl, the developer of 360-degree video camera, is creating a dedicated Bublcam app to play back footage of its gapless spherical videos on Moverio BT-200 smart glasses.

Users will be able to immerse themselves in panoramic digital imagery sent wirelessly from the camera anywhere in the world. The app will enable the Bublcam to serve as the user’s eyes, offering a hands-free, 360-degree viewing spectrum through the user’s natural head movements, with no image latency or lag time.

A technology demonstration of the Bublcam app concept will be available at the Siggraph Conference in Vancouver today through Thursday in Epson Booth 523.

Powered by augmented-reality tools from Blippar, Wear Geared’s Museum Glasses app provides museums and other attractions a technology platform to build and manage smart-glasses content to enhance visitor interest and traffic.

A dashboard of metrics allows attractions to measure engagement levels for each exhibit, creating a map tracking such data as number of exhibitor visitors, time of engagement and length of engagement.

The Epson Moverio BT-200 smart glasses are available through select online retailers and direct from Epson at a $699 suggested retail.
