Casio G-Shock Watch Gets Smarts

Dover, N.J. – Casio America is adding Bluetooth Smart to a G-Shock watch to control a smartphone’s song selection and volume, adjust music equalization, and add sound effects to songs.

The shock-resistant G-Mix Series GBA400 will be available in October at $200 in three color combinations in select department stores, fashion boutiques, key jewelers and the G-Shock Soho store in New York City.

The watch features a rotary switch that lets users scroll through songs stored on an Apple or Android smartphone, control smartphone-music volume and equalizer settings, and add music effects. The rotary switch selects EQ settings and sound effects created and stored in presets via a Casio smartphone app. The app also identifies the names of a song playing nearby and displays the song title on the watch’s digital display.

Supported smartphones include the iPhone 5s, 5c, 5 and 4s and the Samsung Galaxy S5, S4 and Note3.

The watch isn’t Casio’s first with Bluetooth. The company also offers a $99 STB1000 sports watch that uses Bluetooth to connect to select iPhone fitness apps and to a heart-rate sensor and cadence sensor. The watch displays workout data and controls iPhone up/down song selection, volume and pause/play.
