Edison, N.J. — VoIP provider Vonage announced today that it had activated its 1 millionth line.

The milestone, which the company claimed was the largest VoIP subscriber base in North America, includes both residential subscribers and those who use Vonage’s service under other brands.

The company’s CEO Jeffrey Citron said in a statement that Vonage “has woken up a dormant telecommunications industry and sparked a tidal wave of change.”
