Westinghouse Adds MARTA To Buyer List

Westinghouse Digital Electronics, a start-up consumer electronics vendor of LCD TVs and other products, said it has reached a distribution deal with the MARTA Buying Cooperative of America.

Through the deal, Westinghouse Digital will distribute its lines of LCD TV through the Metropolitan Area Radio and Television Association (MARTA), which has approximately 500 member storefronts.

Based in Scottsdale, Ariz., MARTA is the largest member-owned buying group in the consumer electronics industry, with sales of more than $2 billion. A not-for-profit organization, MARTA enables its retail members to buy quality consumer electronics products and appliances in large quantities, often at lower prices.

Westinghouse Digital Electronics, is also distributing is LCD TV line through New York City retailer J&R and Knoxville, TN-based distributor Metron North America. It has licensed the Westinghouse brand from Viacom for consumer electronics products, most of which are manufactured at factories in Taiwan.

MARTA is the largest member-owned buying group in the consumer electronics industry, with more than 500 stores and sales of more than $2 billion.
