Sony Unveils New MiniDV Camcorder

Sony Electronics introduced the DCR-PC105 Mini DV Handycam as the latest edition to its family of ultra-compact Mini DV format digital camcorders.

The new model was said to be designed for traveling anywhere, while delivering high-quality video and still image resolution. The unit weighs about 16 ounces and features a one-megapixel imager with Carl Zeiss optics to produce video with 520 lines of horizontal resolution and still images of up to 1,152 by 864 resolution. Also added is an intelligent pop-up flash to ensure the still image quality in low light situations.

Other features include a two-tone silver/metallic blue finish, 2.5-inch LCD SwivelScreen, which doubles as a touch-screen menu controller, USB streaming to support video conferencing, and an MPEG Movie EX function, which enables recording MPEG1 format video clips onto tape or a MemoryStick card for easy Internet posting.

The lens features 10X optical/120X digital zooming, and Super NightShot allows shooting video images in complete darkness (0 Lux). The DCR-PC105 model will be available in June at a $1,000 expected retail.
