Sony’s Ultra 4K Movie Service Will Debut Monday

Sony said its new 4K movie-streaming service, Ultra, will debut next week exclusively on its 4K Ultra HD TVs with Android TV.

Ultra, which was previewed during CES in January, will officially debut on April 4. Consumers will be able to purchase ($30) and stream Sony Pictures films in 4K, some with HDR. At launch titles will include “Concussion,” “The Night Before and The Walk,” “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” and “Ghostbusters.” Rentals will not be available, nor will films from other studios.

Consumers who purchase eligible Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs will receive four complimentary movies when they sign up for the Ultra service.

The service is also compatible with the UltraViolet Cloud storage system, allowing users to link their Ultra profiles to their existing UltraViolet libraries, and stream previously purchased Sony Pictures content.

Sony Pictures Store consumers who already own HD versions of select titles can upgrade them to 4K on the Ultra service for a discounted fee, Sony said.
