Sony Reveals UHD Media Player Pricing

San Diego — Sony formally revealed pricing and availabilityWednesday for its second-generation 4K Ultra HD media player, model FMP-X10.

The set-top device offers Sony Ultra HD TV owners the chance to download, stream and store the latest 4K Ultra HD movies and TV shows for several over-the-top services.

Sony said the FMP-X10 is available for presale now at a $699 suggested retail, with purchasing and deliveries beginning in July.

Customers who pre-order the device between now and July 15 will save $200 off of the $699 price, Sony said.

The device has access to what Sony called “the largest collection of 4K feature films and TV episodes for the home.”

Hundreds of titles will be available for download from Sony’s Video Unlimited 4K service, and users will also soon be able to stream 4K content from Netflix for playback on a Sony 4K Ultra HD TV.

The media player incorporates a 1TB hard drive and supports Triluminos Color technology, delivering richer and deeper colors.

The Video Unlimited 4K service now offers more than 200 titles, including new release titles in full 4K resolution from Sony Pictures. Recent box office successes in the collection include: “American Hustle,” “The Monuments Men,” “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and “Annie (2014).” The last two will be made available following their upcoming theatrical releases, Sony said.

Netflix will also make 4K streaming content available through the player beginning with its original “House of Cards” season 2.

The device will be available for purchase at Sony stores, and authorized Sony dealers nationwide.
