Sony, Delivery Agent Team For T-Commerce

Berlin — Delivery Agent, developer of TV commerce (t-commerce) solutions and services, said here this week that Sony has signed on to integrate its ShopTV application into Sony’s TV SideView.

The agreement gives viewers the opportunity to shop for products seen in and related to TV programming directly from the TV SideView application.

TV SideView is available globally on more than 4 million iOS and Android devices. The capability will be launched at IFA in Berlin, Sept. 5-10.

Sony’s TV SideView application uses second-screen connectivity to provide a graphical interface through which consumers can interact with their TV, view listings and manage/operate embedded applications on the big screen.

The agreement between the two companies extends TV SideView functionality by enabling users to shop for products related to the programming they’re viewing.

Delivery Agent’s proprietary contextual database is at the base of the system, which maps products to a network, show, episode, character, scene or ad and then surfaces those products for sale, the company said.

“When TV viewers want to purchase goods while watching TV, they need to remember the product brand and name, and search in Amazon, etc. This requires many steps,” said Makoto Ishii, Sony multiscreen UX service department planning and operation division general manager. “But this solution from Delivery Agent offers viewers the ability to purchase with one step while watching TV. Our expectation is to lead the new shopping experience, and we believe Delivery Agent and Sony are the great combination.”
