Lite-On To Ship Recorder With Double-Layer Support

Lite-On IT said it will ship next month its first DVR/DVD recorder combination product that will support double-layer recordable DVD+R DL media.

The unit, model HD-A740GX ($399 suggested retail), will include a 160GB hard disk drive, capable of storing more than 198 hours of video content at one time. The DVD recorder portion of the device is multi-format compatible, enabling users to record to DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW and DVD+R DL discs. It will also play back, but not record to, CD-R media.

When recording to double-layer media, users will have up to 8.5GB of capacity, good for four hours of standard-quality video, on a single disc.

To simplify recording, Lite-On will include its Easy Guider onscreen menu system, which gives users an intuitive series of graphical commands to program the device to record to the hard drive or DVD, record from the hard drive to a DVD and vice versa.

The unit will also play back files recorded in MPEG-4 and DiVX video formats downloaded from the Internet. It will support playback of WMA and MP3 music files.

To support the transfer of digital DV-format home movies to DVD discs, the HD-A740GX includes a front-mounted DV-Link (IEEE-1394) input.

Lite-On also offers an onscreen DV control feature allowing control of the DV camcorder using the DVD recorder’s remote.
