LG Electronics introduced two new displays designed specifically to integrate seamlessly with the most recent MacBook as well as the MacBook Pro models announced yesterday by Apple.
The new LG UltraFine 27-inch 5K monitor is designed and optimized for the new MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 running MacOS 10.12 and later. It features a resolution of 5,120 by 2,880 with 218 ppi. LG said the color reproduction capabilities of the LG UltraFine 5K display allow it to cover 99 percent of the P3 color space and advanced IPS display technology minimizes color shift and color loss from any viewing angle.
Calling it “the world’s first 5K display with Thunderbolt 3,” LG said the display can receive and transfer 5K video, audio and data from the new MacBook Pro while simultaneously charging it through a single Thunderbolt 3 cable. It also features three downstream USB Type-C ports. The integration of the MacOS enables brightness and volume control without the need for physical buttons on the display.
The front-facing camera and microphone work with FaceTime and integrated speakers are enhanced by LG’s Rich Bass technology.
The step-down model is the 21.5-Inch LG UltraFine 4K monitor presenting 4,096 by 2,304 resolution at 219 ppi. It also covers 99 percent of the P3 spectrum.
It features USB Type-C connectivity for video, data and power over a single cable and MacOS integration for display control, with three additional downstream USB Type-C slots and a Rich Bass speaker.
The 21.5-inch LG UltraFine 4K model will be available starting in November and the 27-inch LG UltraFine 5K model will be available in early December at Apple Stores in the United States.
