NEW YORK — The top brands in major categories kept their No. 1 spots in market share for the November 2009 to April 2010 time period, according to The NPD Group’s Midyear Market Share Report.

The market leaders in retail dollars for each category kept the top positions from NPD’s 10-month October 2009 report TWICE published in our Jan. 7 International CES issue.

The market leaders (with the categories in parenthesis) are as follows: Samsung (television), Sony (video), Sony (home audio), Apple (portable audio), Garmin (mobile), Canon (imaging), Panasonic (telecom), and Hewlett Packard (IT and devices).

The overall brand share leader in all categories for the six months is HP.

The report — published exclusively by TWICE — is based on data collected by NPD from select retailers and are based on actual dollar sales on an SKU-by-SKU basis.
