U.S Cellular Outlines Android Roadmap

Chicago – Carrier
U.S. Cellular laid out its 3G Android smartphone roadmap, saying it plans to
expand its Android selection to five models in the coming months.

 The company launched the Samsung Acclaim a few
weeks ago and plans to launch HTC’s Desire on Aug. 27, Samsung’s Galaxy S in
October and two LG Android phones “following closely behind.” Pricing of the
Desire and other upcoming models wasn’t announced.

  The Android 2.1-based Desire features
3.7-inch touchscreen, 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 5- megapixel autofocus
camera with flash, GPS, tethering to a laptop for use as a wireless modem, and
ability to upload photos to Facebook, Flickr and YouTube. The carrier also
preloaded the Desire with its own applications, including contacts backup and a
navigation service.

U.S Cellular is the
company is the nation’s sixth-largest wireless carrier with 6.2 million subscribers
across the country.
