TCL Prepping 110-Inch Curved 4K TV

TV will be displayed at CES with HDR, wide color gamut

TCL will go to CES with a 110-inch curved Ultra HD TV that features high dynamic range and wide color gamut, but the company isn’t talking yet about price or availability.

The company said details would be revealed at CES.

In the U.S., TCL markets 720p and 1080p TVs in 28- to 55-inch screen sizes, so a U.S. launch of the TV would be a major departure for the company, which offers a handful of smaller 4K TVs in China.

The 110-inch TV, which was named a CES 2016 Innovation Awards Honoree, features dynamic backlighting and local dimming for greater contrast, high dynamic range to take contrast to a still-higher level, a wide color gamut, enhanced field depth for sharper images, and glasses-free 3D.

The company didn’t say whether the TV uses QD Vision’s quantum-dot technology to deliver a wider color gamut. TCL uses QD Vision technology in the UHD TVs that it makes available in China.

TCL also didn’t specify whether the color gamut would meet the full NTSC, DCI P3, or ITU BT 2020 standards, nor did the company also didn’t say whether it will use Dolby Vision or SMPTE 2084/2086 HDR technology.

The TV will be displayed at CES 2016 at booth 9829.

TCL’s U.S. selection of 1080p TVs includes multiple models based on the Roku TV smart-TV platform.
