Sony Releases Some 2013 TV Model Prices

SAN DIEGO — Sony officially revealed pricing on two series of 2013 Bravia HDTV models that will ship now through May.

The new core lineup, which was unveiled at 2013 International CES, has two new LED LCD TV series and a number of new features in select models, including OneTouch screen mirroring that instantly shows content from phones and other nearfield communication (NFC)-enabled devices.

The new models in the Bravia LCD W and R series will hit retail shelves now through May.

The W series of Bravia LED LCD TVs includes the KDL-W900A, KDL-W802A and KDL-W650A. All are Wi-Fi enabled, include Sony’s X-Reality PRO for improved picture performance, and have Motionflow XR technology to smooth out fast-action images.

New in 2013, Sony’s W900A TV incorporates Triluminos Display LED backlighting that Sony said yields authentic color and subtle tones.

The W900A model also integrates a long-duct speaker cabinet design that is folded into a compact unit.

All W-series TV models include screen mirroring via Wi-Fi, with the W900A model shipping with an NFC remote. An optional NFC remote will be available for the W802A television. Additionally, all three series are Mobile High Definition Link (MHL)-ready for wired mirroring capabilities.

The KDL-55W900A features a FullHD 1080p 55-inch screen size and carries a $3,299 suggested retail (or a $2,798 street price on some retail sites). The KDLW802A model is available in both 55-inch ($1,999 suggested) and 47-inch ($1,799 suggested) screen sizes. The KDL-W650A model comes in 32 inches at a $799 suggested retail.

The R-series LED LCD TVs include Sony’s Clear Resolution Enhancer technology for enhanced detail and sharpness. The KDLR550A models include 3D capability, Wi-Fi, and a host of onboard app services.

The series is RVU standard compliant, meaning DirectTV customers with Genie whole-home HD DVRs can access their settop box without the need for a thin-client box. The series also offers wireless screen mirroring via Miracast technology and passive 3D (including four pairs of glasses). Models are available in the 70- ($2,698 street on some retail sites), 60- ($1,748 street retail on some sites) and 50-inch ($1,198 street) screen sizes with suggested retails starting at $1,399 for the 50-inch model.

Also available with the same feature-set minus 3D capability — in 70-inch ($2,598 street on some sites) and 60-inch ($1,648 street) sizes — is the KDL-R520A model, with suggested retails starting at $1,999 for the 60-inch model.
