Sony, LG & Samsung Win Netflix’s 2017 Recommended TV Designation

Netflix announced its Recommended TVs for 2017, a program that highlights TV manufacturers who have taken pains to ensure seamless integration with the video-streaming platform.

This year’s models include:

*LG’s UJ6300, UJ6500, SJ8000, SJ8500, SJ9500, UJ7700, B7, C7, E7, G7, and W7 4K Ultra HD TVs;

*Samsung’s 7-, 8-, 9- and Q-series smart TVs; and

*Sony’s X850E, X900E, X930E, X940E Android TVs.

These models offer “better usability,” faster performance, and new features that make getting to Netflix and other Internet TV services as easy as getting to live TV, said Brady Gunderson, Netflix product management director, and David Holland, Netflix business development director, in a company blog post.

Companies must meet at least five of the following seven criteria:

*ability to power on your TV and start using Netflix or other Internet TV apps in just a few seconds;

*switching between apps or from apps to live TV and back again almost instantly;

*the Netflix app is easily accessible from the TV menu;

*the TV “remembers” what the user was doing and wakes to the same place as when it was turned off;

*the Netflix interface appears in high resolution;

*the remote has a Netflix button that can turn on the TV and open the platform within a few seconds; and

*the latest version of Netflix is installed on the TV.

The TVs will be in all countries where Netflix is available, the content provider said, although specific model availability varies by region. Sony, Samsung and LG were also recipients of the 2016 recommendation.
