LG Smart TVs To Deliver GameFly Cloud Gaming

LG is bringing console-like gaming to its smart TVs without requiring the purchase of a game console.

GameFly, the console-game subscription service, will be available on LG’s 2016 and 2015 smart TVs in late April as part of a software update.

The GameFly service use Cloud servers to stream console video games over the Internet to smart TVs and to such devices as Amazon’s Fire TV over-the-top media-streaming device. LG smart TV owners will select the GameFly Streaming app on a smart TV’s menu, plug in a game pad, and play on any LG smart TV in the house without having to buy a console for each TV.

GameFly’s game selection includes “Tomb Raider: Game of the Year Edition” “Batman: Arkham Origins,” “F.E.A.R. 3,” “Darksiders and Red Faction Armageddon,” “Lego Batman 3,” “Pacman Championship Edition,” and “WRC4.”

GameFly recommends the Logitech F310, the Logitech F710 and Xbox wired controller as game pads.

LG’s announcement is part of a trend to offer higher quality gaming apps for smart TVs. At CES, Samsung announced plans to expand the selection of its smart-TV games to include more titles for more serious gamers. GameFly is also available on Samsung smart TVs.
