LG Slashes Prices Of 4K OLED TVs By 30% to 45%

LG is slashing the prices on its OLED Ultra HD 4K TVs.

It announced 30 to 45 percent price reductions on its lineup, and the company brought OLED technology to $1,999 for the first time with the launch of a 55-inch 1080p curved-screen OLED TV.

With the price shifts, LG contended its OLED TVs “are now priced comparably to many of today’s premium LCD/LED TVs.”

Here’s how the pricing stacks up:

–55-inch 55EF9500 reduced from $5,499 to $3,999, plus $1,000 instant rebate available through the end of 2015, for a net price of $2,999.

The OLED TVs deliver a wider color gamut than LED TVs and an expanded range of darkness, brightness and shadow detail, with black levels up to 200 times deeper to create an infinite contrast ratio, the company said.

LG Electronics USA product development director Tim Alessi has said OLED technology delivers perfect black, which “sets the foundation for color and brightness” and “delivers any requirement of HDR.”
