LG’s Massive OLED Tunnel May Be The Coolest Thing At IFA

LG Electronics is welcoming attendees to IFA 2016 in Berlin in impressive fashion with a 5-meter-tall, 15-meter-long tunnel constructed from 216 55-inch curved OLED panels that lead to the company’s exhibition booth.

The structure contains nearly a half billion pixels — 447,897,600 to be exact — to display a collection of Ultra HD scenes including Iceland’s Aurora Borealis, underwater ecosystems and deep space footage.

The display tunnel is made from OLED’s ultra-thin, flexible lightweight panels that can be custom bent to concave or convex formations.

A video titled “From Black to Black” was produced by LG to include footage that the company said accentuates the lifelike colors and the ability to recreate the miniscule details of life which LG’s OLED technology delivers. The footage includes the black ocean with effervescent jellyfish and the gentle movement of whales, as well as scenes from deep black space and the Northern Lights on a black sky. LG captured footage of Iceland’s Northern Lights using 14 separate 8K cameras.
