LG Getting Ready To Roll Its Own TVs

LG might go to CES 2016 with a prototype of a rollable OLED TV, though mass-production models wouldn’t be available unit three or four years later, a Korea Times news report said.

An official at LG’s technology research center told the Korea Times that a 55-inch rollable TV will be displayed at the annual electronics show in Las Vegas in January, but an LG Electronics spokesperson in the U.S. said he couldn’t confirm those plans. “We haven’t started booth talks here in the U.S. yet, he said.

The TV could be rolled up into a tube and carried to wherever a consumer wants to watch TV, LG said. LG Display would supply transparent, flexible OLED panels for the TV.

“The launch of the 55-inch rollable TV represents LG’s readiness to lead over rivals in the heated race for applications with large-sized flexible OLED panels, which are more profitable than devices using small OLED displays,” the LG research official said.
