Beijing –Lenovo plans October U.S. availability of its first stick computer, a pocket-size Windows computer that plugs into a TV’s HDMI port to turn a TV into a PC monitor.
The $129 Ideacentre Stick 300 must also be paired with a 2.4GHz wireless mouse and keyboard to turn it into a full-fledged PC.
The Stick is 15mm thick and features Intel Atom Z3735F processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB of storage, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. It is available with Windows 8.1 and will be upgradable for free to Windows 10 starting July 29.
The device is “designed to serve as a supplemental PC for a user who already owns several devices,” a spokesperson told TWICE . It’s designed for home and on-the-go use and is affordable enough for existing PC owners to justify owning a second or third mobile-PC option, the company added. The Stick, for example, could be used with TVs in rented vacation homes or in dorms.
Windows-based stick computers are also available from Intel and MeeGo, and Google offers a stick that runs its Chrome OS. Android-based sticks are also available.
