Detroit – Favi Entertainment came up with a way to turn a dumb TV into a smart TV.

The supplier of projection screens and DLP projectors developed an Android-based Wi-Fi-equipped HDMI adapter that can be plugged into HDTVs to-stream movies via Netflix, HULU or EPIX, stream music via Pandora or Spotify, stream You Tube video, and access social media sites such as Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter.

The device, called SmartStick, also downloads Android apps and features full Internet browser, 4GB or 8GB of built-in memory, and a MediaSHARE app that lets users stream videos, documents, music, and images, movies from networked PCs.

The 4GB version retails for $49, and the 8GB version is $79. Both come with IR remote, but the SmartStick user interface can also be controlled from an optional $39 wireless mini keyboard.

SmartStick will be available at Radio Shack, Best Buy, Amazon and Newegg in late October, the company said.

Other features include Android 4.0 OS, support for 720p and 1080p HD displays, WI-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/, 32GB microSD slot, mini USB for DC input, and USB 2.0 port.

A video of the device in action can be found here.
