B&O Ups the Ultra HD Ante At CEDIA

Denver – Bang & Olufsen is presenting at CEDIA Expo this week an elaborate animated booth showcasing its various approaches to home networking and highly designed A/V home entertainment.

The booth rivals many World’s Fair exhibits with animatronic-like actors that are actually many of its latest products in the B&O lineup and various home appliances offering automated movement and activation triggered by B&O’s home control BeoLink Gateway and universal remotes.

But the highlight of this year’s showcase was the company’s first 85-inch BeoVision Avant Ultra HD LED LCD TV, with automated swivel stand that enables the screen to be positioned at virtually any angle.

The company’s new flagship television displays Ultra High-Definition (4K) picture and B&O sound.

Bang & Olufsen offers purchasers the option of a motorized stand or wall bracket to hold the BeoVision Avant 85. Both were designed to help conceal the set somewhat when not in use. At turn on, the motorized system begins a choreographed unfolding into the user’s favorite position, tuned to a favorite channel, and placed in a favorite sound setting. At switch off, the set folds back its speakers, and returns to a discrete resting position against a wall.

The set features a full array direct LED backlit screen with 2D local dimming.

The set includes eight integrated driver units and a surround sound module. An integrated 3-channel speaker configuration with center channel and stereo front channels offers speech optimized sound and sufficient bass to satisfy. The sound can be enhanced with up to a full 7.1 surround system, including the use of wireless speakers, if desired, using the set’s Immaculate Wireless Sound Concept.

The BeoVision Avant 85 is controlled by the BeoRemote One.

B&O said the BeoVision Avant 85 is available now through Bang & Olufsen stores at a $22,700 suggested retail price for the TV with BeoRemote One. The motorized floor stand is an extra $2,295.

Meanwhile, B&O called its BeoLink Gateway “the mastermind” behind its intelligent home integration capabilities and provides the key to controlling everything – all the way from the curtains to the coffee maker.

The new BeoLink Gateway uses a Real-Time Configuration programming platform for easy set up with diverse devices in different rooms and different zones.

With the platform, disparate devices around the house can be controlled from a Bang & Olufsen remote or app.

It uses an unusual user interface that auto-configures itself on the fly to reduce complex programming, B&O said.

Brian Bjørn Hansen, B&O category manager, said the BeoLink Gateway targets custom installers building and retrofitting increasingly complex systems that automate everything from audio and video systems to lighting, security, IT networks, HVAC and window coverings.

The BeoLink Gateway advances on industry-standard HTML5 and includes a web panel for two-way feedback with home automation systems and can be accessed through most web-browsers, including the browser on a B&O TV.
