Digital Fitness Looms Larger At CES

Arlington, Va. — Digital fitness products will occupy 30 percent more space at the 2014 International CES.

According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the show’s producer, CES’s FitnessTech TechZone has expanded to 11,500 square feet, housing more than 75 exhibitors.

Produced in partnership with conference planner Living In Digital Times (LIDT), FitnessTech is a market-specific section that will focus exclusively on the newest technologies for sports and fitness enthusiasts. Hundreds of products, services and solutions will be showcased that use technology to make workouts and outdoor activities fun, safe and effective, the trade association said. Major exhibitors include Fitbit, GeoPalz, Jaybird, Looxcie, Polar and Wahoo Fitness.

In addition to the TechZone, a full-day FitnessTech conference produced by LIDT will be held during the 2014 CES on Tuesday, Jan. 7, highlighting key trends impacting the collective multi-billion dollar sports, fitness and outdoor markets. Topics of discussion will include: a “battle of the bands,” i.e. fitness bands; the “quantified” generation; wearable tech; and how fitness devices will get even smarter.

According to a CEA report, the market for fitness technology is predicted to grow nearly 25 percent next year. “With improvements in sensor technology, devices can monitor everything from steps taken to stairs climbed, which allows consumers to better monitor their daily activity and create smarter goals,” said Karen Chupka, senior VP of International CES and CEA’s corporate business strategy. “There’s no denying that fitness has gone high tech and that CES is the place to experience the latest consumer health tech advances.”

Added FitnessTech Summit producer Julie Sylvester, “Tech provides a shot of adrenaline to the fitness industry. The fact that FitnessTech has outperformed the industry’s projected growth shows that we’ve tapped into an increasingly important part of the CE industry.”

The FitnessTech TechZone will be located in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center (LVCC). It will be one of 20 market-specific TechZones highlighting innovations across 15 different product categories at CES, which runs Jan. 7-10, 2014.
