Indianapolis — The systems integration business is on the mend.

Attendance at last week’s CEDIA Expo rose 5.9 percent to 17,900 following a 4 percent dip in 2012, and the number of exhibitors grew to more than 470 from more than 450 in 2012, CEDIA reported. In addition, preliminary findings from a CEDIA survey found that systems integrators expect their gross revenues to rise by 16 percent in 2013 to an average $1.47 million following a 2012 dip of 4 percent to $1.27 million.

The survey also found that systems integrators on average expect a 15.6 percent increase in the number of residential projects they expect to complete in 2013 and a 12.3 percent increase in the dollar size of their residential projects. The number of projects is projected to hit 52, and the average size of the projects will hit $36,401.

As for the Expo itself, the number of new exhibitors grew by 20 percent, and first-time attendees increased by 50 percent compared with last year, the association said. CEDIA training attendance also grew, with course registrations growing 50 percent to 6,300, the association said.

Attendees from 84 countries came to the event, up from 71 countries at last year’s event.

Total attendance was not only up from 2012 but also from 2011, when attendance was 17,600. Nonetheless, attendance is still down from the show’s peak of 29,000 in 2007. Attendance slipped after that to 25,500 in 2008 and 20,322 in 2009 before ticking up in 2010 to 20,721.

The number of exhibitors is also up from 2011 and 2010. In 2011, the number of exhibitors hit more than 444, compared with more than 470 at this year’s show, and 2010’s exhibitor count was 450. There were 426 exhibitors in 2009, and there were 500 in 2008.
