Las Vegas — The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) will promote high-resolution digital music at International CES by showcasing multiple of high-resolution download stores in the Hi-Res Audio Experience TechZone, which will also host three panel sessions on a variety of high-res audio topics.
The TechZone and sessions will be held in the Venetian’s Bellini Ballroom.
The first session, scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., is called “Welcome to the Hi-Res Music World.” It promises an inside look at the opportunities and challenges associated with licensing and distributing high-res recordings.
The panel, moderated by Alex Pham of Billboard, includes top executives from the major music labels and their digital retailers. They will review such topics as the latest methods to archive and ingest digital assets as well as the best way to market and promote titles.
The panelists are Jim Belcher, technology and production VP at Universal Music Group; Mark Piibe, global business development executive VP at Sony Music Entertainment; Norman Chesky, co-founder and president of HD Tracks; C. Jared Sacks, managing director of Native DSD Music; Chad Kassem, founder and CEO of Acoustic Sounds; Cookie Marenco, founder of Blue Coast Music; and and Mark Waldrep, founder and president of iTrax.com.
The second session, called “Meet the Hi-Res Music Creators,” is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees will learn about the music-creation process from award-winning producers and engineers. The panel, moderated by Mike Mettler of The Sound Bard, will explore such topics as recording, mixing and mastering in high-res audio; the key characteristics of each format; and how to utilize meta data to enhance the overall listening experience.
Panelists are Elliot Scheiner, producer, mixer and engineer at ELS Surround; Allen Sides, engineer and producer at Ocean Way Recording; John Newton, founder and president of Soundmirror; Cookie Marenco, founder and executive producer at Blue Coast Records; David Chesky, composer, musician and producer at Chesky Records; Mark Waldrep, recording and mastering engineer at AIX Records; and C. Jared Sacks, producer and engineer at Channel Classics.
The third session, called “Hi-Res Audio for Every Lifestyle,” is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The panel, moderated by TWICE senior editor Joseph Palenchar, will focus on consumer products and issues related to marketing the products. Issues include demonstrating hi-res audio at retail; the various options for bringing hi-res music into the home, and ways to educate and engage young music enthusiasts.
The panelists are Steve Silberman, development VP at Audioquest; Aaron Levine, product marketing manager at Sony Electronics; Owen Kwon, business development VP for iRiver; Paul Wasek, national marketing and product planning manager at Onkyo USA; David J. Steven, managing director of dCS; and Michal Jurewicz, president of Mytek Digital.
