New York - Toshiba today
unveiled its first laptop based on Intel's Ultrabook concept.
The Portege Z830/Z835 is
expected to be on retail shelves by mid-November with a sub-$1,000 price point.

same feature set with the exception that the Z830 will have Windows 7

a tablet PC-like notebook: one that has a quick boot time, is light and portable,
yet delivers the exact same computing experience as a full-size laptop.
The Z830/Z835 can be
equipped with a selection of Intel's second-generation Core processors, Intel
HD graphics 3000, up to 6GB of memory and a solid-state drive. There is a no
option for a hard-disk drive. A 1.3-megapixel camera is included.
It features a variety of
ports, including USB 3.0, 2.0, HDMI, RGB, an SD slot and an Ethernet port.

anticipated at about eight hours, and the design features an integrated
battery, not replaceable. Kinjo said this was done to help reduce the overall
footprint, and it enabled the engineers to include a larger battery. The
battery can be replaced by an authorized service center.
There is no integral cellular service. Toshiba opted to avoid
adding the additional cost, and Kinjo added a USB cellular attachment that is
just as efficient. Many carriers will give them to a customer for signing up
for the service.
