Verizon Readies LTE Slider

Bedminster, N.J. — Verizon Wireless will offer the next generation of its Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere with LTE and slide-out QWERTY keyboard in the coming weeks.

The Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere II, priced at $129 through carrier stores after $50 mail-in rebate, will feature multiple enhancements over the current keyboard-equipped Galaxy Stratosphere, which is currently retailing for free on the carrier’s website.

Including the current Stratosphere, Verizon offers three LTE Android smartphones with slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

The new version features 1.2GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.0, 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, and S Beam to share photos and videos with other compatible devices via nearfield communications (NFC). It is a Global Ready phone capable of making calls and accessing the Internet from more than 200 countries.

Business-oriented features include built-in VPN connectivity, support for multi-vendor Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems by enterprises, and such security features as Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and on-device AES 256-bit encryption.

Movies can be downloaded for purchase or rent to the phone from Samsung Media Hub.

Its predecessor featured Android 2.3, 1GHz processor, 4-inch Super AMOLED display and mobile hot spot but lacked NFC.
