Toshiba Claims Mantle Of Thinnest 12-Inch Windows Tablet With DynaPad

Toshiba is promoting its DynaPad Windows 10 tablet as the world’s thinnest and lightest 12-inch Windows tablet.

It won’t, however, be available until the first quarter, so some other company still has a chance to steal the title.

Pricing wasn’t announced.

Separately, the company priced its Satellite Radius 12 convertible two-in-one Ultra HD laptop at a suggested $1,299 and announced Oct. 18 in-store availability. The convertible, unveiled in September, is promoted as the world’s first 12.5-inch convertible laptop with Ultra HD 4K display.

The DynaPad tablet measures 0.27 inches thick and weighs 1.25 pounds without optional magnetically attached keyboard. It comes with TruPen stylus, which combined with metal-mesh sensor technology is designed to replicate the natural feeling of writing with a pen on paper. The tablet mirrors a common-size paper notebook.

The pen itself offers 2,048 levels of pressure, which lets consumers maintain a natural writing style when making notes, annotating documents, and drawing with a high level of accuracy and detail, the company said. The TruPen clips onto the tablet’s side.

The tablet comes with updated versions of Toshiba-exclusive business applications that let users to collect, organize and share notes, images and files. The apps incude TruNote, TruCapture and TruRecorder, and new TruNote Clip and TruNote Share apps for capturing screen clips and sharing handwriting in real time.

The apps adapt to right- and left-handed users.

Toshiba didn’t reveal many more details  other than saying the tablet comes with 12-inch diagonal WUXGA+ (1,920 by 1,280) IPS display, rigid monocoque carbon bod, and rubberized satin gold finish to make it more comfortable to hold.

The optional full-size keyboard features 19mm pitch and 1.5mm stroke for easier typing. It’s attached by magnets.

As for Radius 12 availability, Toshiba said the convertible laptop will be available Oct. 18  through Best Buy, Microsoft stores, and Toshiba’s website. The convertible, said to be the world’s first 12.5-inch convertible laptop with Ultra HD 4K display, is also said to be one of the first small-screen PCs to enable facial authentication with Windows Hello. Windows Hello lets customers log in to the laptop instantaneously via infrared camera.

A Radius 12 version with HD display is priced at a suggested $999.

Both models feature a touchscreen display that rotates 360 degrees for use in five positions, including tablet mode.
