MetroPCS Enters Tablet Market

Bellevue, Wash. — T-Mobile’s MetroPCS prepaid brand entered the tablet market with the launch of the $149 Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 with HSPA+21Mbps 4G wireless-data technology and Wi-Fi.

The prepaid brand also developed a trio of rate plans to go with the tablet, starting at $10/month for existing MetroPCS customers.

Prepaid brands such as Boost and Cricket don’t offer tablets, the company said.

Existing MetroPCS subscribers get a $5/month discount on MetroPCS’s tablet data plans. For current customers, plans start at $10/month for 1GB of 4G data, with unlimited data after that as slower speeds. A $20 plan offers 3GB of 4G data, and the $30/month plan offers 5GB.

The Android 4.2 tablet features a 7-inch 1,024  by  600 screen, 1.3GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GM embedded memory, 32GB MicroSD slot, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Wi-Fi calling, Bluetooth and a depth of only 8.9mm. It also features 1080p video storage, built-in 2-megapixel main camera, 0.3-megapixel rear video chat camera and a 3,240 mAh battery.

MetroPCS products and services are sold through company-owned stores, authorized dealer locations and national retailers. Alcatel OneTouch is a TCL Communication brand.
