Entry-Level Lenovo Tablets Get Dolby Atmos Surround

Barcelona, Spain – Dolby Atmos surround decoding appeared here at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in two low-priced Android tablets from Lenovo, which unveiled an 8-inch model and 10.1-inch model at $129 and $199, respectively.

The Wi-Fi Tab 2 A10 and Tab 2 A8, said to be the first tablets with Atmos, will deliver an object-based surround experience through any pair of headphones. LTE versions at higher prices will be available outside North America.

The Tab 2 A8 also stands out as the company’s first tablet running Android 5.0 Lollipop in pure form. It also features a bezel that’s narrower than its predecessor’s bezel, delivering 8-inch screen in a 7-inch device, the company said.

The A10 and A8 will be available starting in April and June, respectively, in North America. They represent the company’s opening price points for Android tablets.

They feature MediaTek 64-bit quad-core processors running at 1.3Hz and 1.5GHz, respectively. They’re also touted for their thin profile and light wright.

The launch underscores that “affordability and innovation can be synonymous,” said Jeff Meredith, tablet VP/GM. “In particular, bringing Dolby Atmos cinema sound expected in more premium devices to our entry A Series tablets elevates the definition of the mobile connected experience.”

Other key A8 features include 8-inch HD IPS display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 5-point multitouch capacitive touchscreen, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, 32GB microSD Card slot, two front-facing speakers, 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera, 2-megapixel fixed-focus front camera, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, and 4290mAh battery for up to 8 hours of use. It measures 125 by 210 by 8.9mm, or 4.9 by 8.3 by 0.4 inches.

The Tab 2 A10 features Android 4.4 KitKat, a free Lollipop 5.0 upgrade expected in June, 10.1-inch full-HD 10-point multitouch IPS display, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 64GB microSD Card slot, 8-megapixel autofocus main camera, 5-megapixel fixed-focus front camera, 7000mAh battery for up to 10 hours of use, Bluetooth 4.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n. The tablet measures 171 by 247 by 8.9 mm, or 6.7 by 9.7 by 0.35 inches.

An optional Bluetooth keyboard acts as a stand, cover and keyboard.
