New York – Barnes & Noble will expand the video-content options available for its Nook Tablet with the fall launch of the Nook Video streaming and download service.

Nook Video will offer standard- and high-definition movies and TV shows for purchase, including content from HBO, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Starz, Viacom, Warner Bros. Entertainment, and The Walt Disney Studios. Barnes & Noble also plans to offer content from other studios not yet announced.

The service will also be compatible with the UltraViolet video-locker service, enabling consumers to buy DVDs and Blu-ray discs with the UltraViolet logo and add the titles to the Nook Cloud service for playback on the tablets and other devices. The Nook Cloud service will also enable videos streamed and downloaded from the Nook Store to be available via the Internet for viewing on other mobile devices equipped with free Nook Video apps to be launched soon, the company said. As with Nook Reading apps for mobile devices, the Nook Video apps will synchronize playback so that users can pick up a movie on one device after at the point where they stopped watching on another device.

The Wi-Fi-equipped Android-based Nook Tablet already offers preloaded music and video-streaming services from the likes of Netflix, Hulu Plus and Pandora.

The Nook Tablet is available at $199 for a 16GB model and $179 for an 8GB model.
