Barnes & Nobles Cuts Prices On Carryover Tablets

New York – Barnes & Noble yesterday dropped the prices on two carryover tablets following Nov. 1 availability of its first two HD-resolution tablets, the 7-inch Nook HD and 9-inch Nook HD+. 11/05/2012 05:47:00 AM Eastern

New York – Barnes & Noble yesterday dropped the prices on two carryover tablets as it readies Nov. 8 availability of its first two HD-resolution tablets, the 7-inch Nook HD and 9-inch Nook HD+.

The company reduced the price of its year-old 7-inch Nook Tablet by $20 to $159 for the 8GB model and $179 for the 16GB model. The two-year-old 7-inch Nook Color goes to $139 from $149.

The 8GB Nook Tablet now matches the $159 price on Amazon’s 7-inch 8GB Kindle Fire, an upgraded version of which became available Sept. 14.

The reductions follow the launch of the 7.9-inch iPad Mini starting at $329, an expanded selection of Amazon Kindle Fire tablets, Google’s Wi-Fi-only Nexus 7 at $199 for the 16GB version and $249 for the 32GB version, and the planned launch of Google’s 10-inch Nexus 10, due Nov. 13 with Wi-Fi at $399 for the 16GB version and at $499 for the 32GB version.

B&N tablets are sold though almost 700 Barnes & Noble stores, hundreds of Barnes & Noble College Bookstores, online at NOOK.com, and through other retailers such as Best Buy, Target and Walmart.

The two new B&N tablets with HD displays are the 7-inch Nook HD, priced at $199 for the 8GB version and $229 for the 16GB version, and the 9-inch Nook HD+, which is priced at $269 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32GB version.
