7-Eleven convenience stores.
convenience-store chain had previously offered only T-Mobile prepaid cards,
which it launched in 2002.
yesterday, T-Mobile began offering the prepaid LG-made GS170 phone through more than 6,000 7-Eleven stores nationwide. The 3G phone is
priced at $29.99.
With the launch, 7-Eleven said it is
expanding its prepaid-phone selection. The Dallas-based chain entered the
cellular market in 1994, when it began selling prepaid cards.
"We were one of the first in our
industry to offer prepaid phone service," said Jesus Delgado-Jenkins,
7-Eleven's SVP of merchandising,
marketing and logistics.
T-Mobile and 7-Eleven are offering a limited-time promotion through August in which the phone's price will be cut in half with the purchase of a $50 airtime card at 7-Eleven stores.

7-Eleven operates, franchises or
licenses more than 8,800 7-Eleven stores in North America.
