NPD Tracking Home Automation Market

Port Washington, N.Y. –The NPD Group launched a home automation service that includes consumer panel-based reporting, U.S. point-of-sale data, and analysis from NPD analysts.

The reports from NPD Connected Intelligence include a view of the device landscape, consumer adoption, and the use of home automation devices. NPD’s POS data will track home automation security and monitoring, system controllers, and smart lighting. Additional categories will be added later this year.

The service will help retailers and suppliers “understand the size and growth of key segments and identify early barriers to adoption and how to overcome them,” said NPD Technology president Ian Hamilton.

“The home automation market is being bolstered by growth in mobile devices, do-it-yourself plug and play devices, and low-cost barrier to entry solutions,” added Eddie Hold, NPD Connected Intelligence VP. The suite of services will enable clients “to make informed decisions about growth opportunities and profitability while understanding the consumer and their motivations for purchase,” he said.
