Vizio Adds First Under-TV Speaker

Irvine, Calif. – Vizio priced its first under-TV speaker system at a suggested $249 and rolled it out to a variety of online retailers.

The compact 2.1 Sound Stand (S2121w-D0), which joins a series of soundbars, is designed for use with TVs up to 55 inches in diagonal screen size It measures 3 inches in height and supports TVs weighing up to 60 pounds.

The speaker system’s integrated 5.25-inch subwoofer and two 2.75-inch drivers deliver 55Hz to 19kHz frequency response and 101dB SPLs with less than 1 percent THD. The system incorporates stereo Bluetooth, Dolby Digital surround decoding, and DTS TruSurround, which processes mono, stereo and multichannel content for playback over 2.0 to 3.1 speaker systems. It and other DTS technologies combine to deliver a broad sweet spot, elevated sound image, dialog enhancement, bass enhancement and expanded soundfield for mono/stereo playback, and accurate placement of surround-sound cues.

Five wired inputs consist of stereo RCA, optical digital, coaxial digital, 3.5mm minijack and USB audio, which supports WAV file playback on USB mass-storage devices.

It’s promoted as producing higher bass output at 63Hz and below, and a lower price than competing models from Bose, Samsung and LG.

The Sound Stand has been rolled out to SamsClub.com, Amazon.com and Vizio.com and will come to additional retailers such as Sam’s Club, Costco.com, Target.com and Walmart.com, Vizio said.

The product was shown at International CES, but pricing and most product details weren’t released.
