Polk, Microsoft In Audio Alliance

Baltimore – Microsoft has tapped Polk Audio as a preferred premium-audio partner for Xbox 360.

Promotions and other co-branded efforts will be detailed in the coming months, a Polk spokesperson said.

The first product to be licensed for Xbox 360 is Polk’s compact SurroundBar 5000 Instant Home Theater soundbar, which is 31 inches wide and 2¼ inches deep. It comes with 6½-inch wireless subwoofer and is described as a good match for the Xbox 360 and a mid-size flat-panel display.

Additional Polk products will become part of the relationship, said Kevin Duffy, president of Polk parent DEI Holdings. Polk is “working together with the Xbox Third Party Accessories Team to develop new, groundbreaking gaming and streaming sound solutions for 2013 and beyond,” he said.

The $399-suggested SurroundBar 5000 IHT is Polk’s first soundbar with stereo Bluetooth, and the company is implementing apt-X decoding over Bluetooth. The product was announced earlier this year and ships this month.
