Pioneer Home Entertainment expanded its selection of Dolby Atmos speakers with the launch of two low-priced models.
The Pioneer-series models are a $199/pair Atmos add-on speaker module, which can be placed on top of existing speakers to deliver height channels, and a $299/pair compact speaker with elevation drivers built into the top. Both were designed by noted speaker designer Andrew Jones, who has since moved to another company. They join an Elite series $699-each floorstanding speaker and a $749/pair bookshelf speaker, both with top-mounted elevation drivers.
All of the speakers can be used with Pioneer audio/video receivers equipped with Atmos decoding.
Other companies with Atmos-enabled speakers include Klipsch, KEF, Definitive Technology, Atlantic Technology, Triad and Onkyo.
Pioneer’s $199/pair SP-T22A-LR add-on module features concentrically mounted 4-inch woofer and 0.5-inch tweeter angled up at a 10-degree angle to bounce sound off the ceiling. The 80-watt-max speakers can be placed on top of most flat-top speakers and can be paired with the $129/pair SP-BS22-LR compact speakers and $129/pair SP-FS52 floor standing speakers as well as Pioneer’s previous-generation $129/pair SP-BS21-LR and $259/pair SP-FS51 speakers.
The new $299/pair SP-BS22A-LR compact speaker features integrated cabinet-top, concentrically mounted 4-inch woofer and 0.5-inch tweeter at a 10-degree slant. The speaker also features from 4-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter, and it’s rated at 80 watts max.
