Paradigm Fattens Up Thin-Speaker Line

Toronto — Paradigm is expanding its Millenia thin-speaker line for flat-panel TVs to two models with the launch of two new SKUs that can be mounted on a wall or on an included shelf stand.

The new $499-each Millenia LP 2 and $699-each Millenia LP XL, available in stores in early August, are only 1.75 inches deep and can be placed horizontally or vertically for use as surround, center or left-right speakers. They’re designed to deliver high-end audio performance without taking up much floor space, the company said.

The LP2, which replaces the recently discontinued Millenia LP, is a two-way five-driver bass-reflex speaker with 1-inch dome tweeter, two 4.5-inch midranges, and two 4.5-inch passive radiators that deliver 75Hz (DIN) bass extension with a 3dB downpoint of 120Hz. It measures 25.2 inches by 6.5 inches by 1.75 inches.

The LP XL is a two-way seven-driver bass-reflex speaker with 1-inch dome tweeter, four 4.5-inch midranges, and two 4.5-inch passive radiators delivering bass extension of 60Hz (DIN) with a 3dB down point of 120Hz.

Compared with its predecessor, the LP2 features a new tweeter design whose phase ring, camouflaged inside a protective screen, to improve high frequency response, the company said. It also adds aluminum cones to yield less distortion than polypropylene by moving resonances out of the drivers pass band, the company added. The speaker also features new aesthetics, with a perforated tweeter screen and a one-piece baffle to streamline the LP 2’s look.

The XL also comes with these attributes.

Both models, suited for use with 15- to 130-watt amplifiers, feature gloss-black finish with brushed-aluminum accents.
