Onkyo Readies TV-Sound System, Tabletop Audio

8/30/2012 12:25:30 PM Eastern

Indianapolis – Onkyo is coming to the Expo with its first 2.1-speaker TV-sound enhancement system, the company’s first iPod/iPhone-docking music system with built-in stereo Bluetooth, and two new mini systems, one of which is the company’s first with embedded stereo Bluetooth.

One of the mini systems is the company’s first networked mini system.

All ship in the fourth quarter along with a new stereo integrate amplifier. Prices haven’t been revealed.

The 2.1-speaker system is the LS3100 EnvisionCinema, intended to improve TV-sound quality. It consists of a slim amplifier, separate left-right speakers, a wireless downfiring subwoofer, stereo Bluetooth streaming, and SRS audio processing that expands the soundstage, improves dialog intelligibility, and equalizes out volume fluctuations in TV programming. It lacks virtual-surround processing and Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1 decoding. It can be controlled from a TV or set-top box remote.

The two new three-chassis mini systems are the CS-N755 Network HiFi Mini System and CS-355 Colobrino CD/Bluetooth HiFi Mini system, the former with optional stereo Bluetooth and the latter with built-in stereo Bluetooth. Both feature AM/FM tuner, single-CD player, and certified iPod/iPhone-compatible USB. The CS-355 adds iPad certification.

The CS-N755 is the company’s first mini system with network capability, enabling it to stream music from a networked PC, Internet radio stations via vTuner, and Internet music services Pandora, Rhapsody, Slacker, Sirius Internet Radio, last.fm, and aupeo!. A back-panel Ethernet port provides network connectivity.

The N755’s front-panel USB port streams music from iPod/iPhones, USB flash drives and hard discs. The system supports MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless, FLAC, and WMA Lossless playback. With an optional USB Bluetooth adapter, the mini system also streams music wirelessly from Apple and Android devices. The Bluetooth adapter supports the high-quality AAC and aptX codecs over Bluetooth. The CS-N755 can also be operated using Onkyo's free remote control Apps for iPhone and Android.

Other N755 features include Onkyo's Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT), which drives two two-way bass-reflex speakers, each with a 5-inch woofer and 1-inch soft dome tweeter.

The second new three-chassis mini system, the S-355 Colobrino, will be available in white, red and black. It lacks networking but incorporates embedded stereo Bluetooth. It also streams the high-quality aptX and AAC codecs over Bluetooth. The front-panel USB is certified for iPods, iPhones, and iPads and USB memory devices with stored MP3 and AAC files.

Onkyo currently offers two mini systems at a suggested $249 and $299, both with 30-pin iPhone/iPod dock.

In iPod/iPhone-docking speaker systems, the company is unveiling the RBX-500 iLunar, which is the company’s first docking speaker with embedded stereo Bluetooth. It also features an iPod/iPhone-compatible USB port that also streams music from other connected USB devices.

It features six speakers, subwoofer, and 3D sound processing from Sonic Emotion. The processing uses wave field systems to immerse listeners in sound no matter where they are in a room, the company said.

In component audio, the A-9059 stereo integrated amplifier will be the company’s lowest priced integrated amp with DIDRC Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry to eliminate super-high-frequency noise and pulse interference.  That technology previously started at $1,199 in an integrated amp.

The integrated amp also features new PM Bass technology, which matches the phases of low- and mid-frequency sound waves to improve mid-range clarity and bass response. It also features WRAT technology, MM phono input and subwoofer output.
